WHY CHOOSE OAK FACADES?

The main ones are that it is incredibly hard and has a long lifespan and is valued for its beautiful, densely packed fiber. Thanks to the density of the fiber, it is naturally resistant to moisture, insects and mold. The basic properties of oak wood are hardness, strength, toughness and durability. Of our woods, it resists not only weather conditions, but also the alternation of moisture and dryness the longest, oak facades are low-maintenance. Oak wood has always been popular in furniture making. In England, they named an entire century after it – the age of oak (1500 – 1600)

Nowadays, modern aesthetics and a modern lifestyle emphasize individuality. The facade is the only element of a building that definitely creates a decisive first impression. A wooden oak facade is always unique and will charm everyone who loves wood with its beautiful properties: natural diversity and lively appearance, durability, good structural properties, ecological attitude and the speed that is made possible during construction. Wooden oak facades are gaining a reputation for prestige due to all the above properties and also because their aesthetic value is increasingly recognized in modern architectural approaches.

QUALITY AND LONGEVITY

In terms of hardness and other properties such as density and longevity, oak facades are boldly comparable to exotic woods. Wooden oak facades do not have such a high purchase price as exotic woods. It is available in a dark brown color and can easily last for several decades without treatment.

Wooden facades made of oak are more than easy to assemble, which is why we can offer you oak facades in the form of selling the terrace boards and base beams themselves.

Outdoor wooden structures require precise construction methods to withstand time and weather, which is why we will also manufacture and deliver a turnkey oak facade for you.

OAK FACADE, VISUALLY ATTRACTIVE MATERIAL

Oak is very resistant to mechanical wear and tear. When exposed to weather, it turns grey over time and changes its structure minimally for a long time.

That is why oak facades are suitable as cladding, and not only for wooden buildings. You can use them for houses built from literally any building material. Thanks to the fact that wooden oak facades are attached to the house using a supporting grid, a ventilated gap is created between the wooden cladding and the building itself. For both brick and wooden houses, a ventilated facade is a safe solution, because even if humidity increases somewhere in the wall, the moisture from the building can evaporate through the ventilated gap.

Wooden oak facades are suitable for both residential houses and large public buildings, as well as for commercial and residential buildings. The wooden facade protects the basic structure from environmental influences, and is also an important design and aesthetic element of the building.

SHOULD I TREAT OAK FACADES OR LET THEM TURN GREY?

Oak does not need a surface treatment in outdoor conditions, as it can last for about 20 to 30 years without decaying without direct contact with the ground. Untreated oak will turn grey in about 2-3 years due to sunlight and moisture. The color first changes from the points most exposed to weathering and evens out over a few years, depending on the conditions. The greying of wood can be slowed down by treating the wood with transparent wood preservatives. Exterior cladding made of oak also does not need to be surface treated, as the material oak can withstand UV radiation and moisture. However, the wood will turn grey over the years. Remember that during greying the tone of the oak terrace surface may become uneven. In order for oak surfaces to remain durable and attractive, it is important to check them annually for damage. If necessary, washing away dirt from the wood surface helps. We produce oak facades with visible or hidden joints in various widths and thicknesses according to the customer’s wishes.

HOW LONG WILL AN OAK FACADE LAST?

Oak facades are a popular choice for exterior cladding due to their aesthetics and durability. Their lifespan depends on several factors, including the type of wood, climatic conditions and maintenance.

General durability : Untreated oak facades can last approximately 20 to 30 years without significant decay, as long as they are not exposed to direct contact with the ground.

Treatment and maintenance : Oak wood has a natural resistance to UV rays and moisture, but without treatment it will start to turn grey in 2 to 3 years. Regular maintenance, such as inspection and cleaning, can help maintain its attractive appearance and extend its lifespan.

Climatic factors : The lifespan of oak facades can be affected by local climatic conditions. For example, extreme temperatures and high humidity can shorten their lifespan, while proper ventilation and structural modifications can extend their durability.

MAINTENANCE OF OAK FACADES?

Maintenance of oak facades is key to their longevity and aesthetic appearance. Oak wood, although known for its durability, requires regular care to prevent degradation and damage due to weather conditions.

Regular inspection and cleaning

Regular inspections : It is important to carry out regular inspections of the condition of the facade, focusing on signs of aging and damage. The inspection should also include points of connection to the structure, such as parapet sheets and anchors.

Cleaning : It is recommended to wash the facade with water pressure using a facade cleaner every 2 years. If there is a biotic infestation (e.g. moss or algae), a remover of these organisms should be applied before cleaning.

Maintenance under favorable conditions : Cleaning should be carried out at temperatures above 5 °C and with a maximum temperature of the cleaning solution up to 40 °C to avoid surface damage.

Protective coatings

Coating frequency : A protective coating should be applied every 15 to 25 years depending on the conditions and the type of coating used. The coating increases the wood’s resistance to weathering.

Paint selection : It is important to choose a paint that matches the composition of the original finish. It is recommended to consult a professional before using other types of paint.

Damage prevention

Preventing moisture : When installing oak facades, it is necessary to ensure that the wood has the opportunity to dry quickly after exposure to moisture, otherwise there is a risk of rotting.

Preserving aesthetics : A quality surface treatment is key to preserving the original color and structure of the wood, helping to prevent the tannins from leaching out with rainwater.

Regular maintenance of oak facades includes both preventive inspections and cleaning, as well as the application of protective coatings. A careful approach to maintenance can significantly extend the life of oak wood and maintain its aesthetic properties.

HOW IS OAK WOOD PROTECTED FROM ROT AND INSECTS?

Oak wood, as a natural material, requires specific methods of protection against rot and insects to maintain its quality and durability.

Protection against rot

Drying wood : The most effective way to prevent rot is to keep the moisture content of the wood below 20%. Dried wood becomes less susceptible to attack by fungi that thrive in moist environments.

Impregnation : The use of impregnations and protective coatings is essential for protection against moisture and mold. These coatings penetrate the wood structure and create a protective barrier.

Structural protection : Proper placement and construction of wooden elements is also important to minimize the risk of water retention. For example, it is advisable to ensure good water drainage and sufficient ventilation around wooden structures.

Insect protection

Pest control coatings : There are special coatings and impregnations that protect wood from wood-destroying insects. These products can also have multiple functions, such as protection against moisture and mold.

Regular maintenance : Wood treatment should be carried out regularly, ideally every 2-5 years, to ensure long-term protection.

Prevention : Ensuring good ventilation and a dry environment helps discourage insects from settling on wooden surfaces. Wood-decaying fungi and insects dislike drafts and dry conditions.

Protecting oak wood from rot and insects involves a combination of prevention, proper treatment and regular maintenance. Using appropriate impregnations and following the principles of maintaining low humidity can effectively extend the life of oak wood.
