WHY OAK FLOORS?
Solid oak wood floors are milled from a single piece of wood, called floor blanks, which are kiln-dried to a moisture content of 9-12% before profiling. Depending on the desired appearance of the floor, the lumber can be cut in three ways: planed, quarter-cut or jointed. The moisture content at the time of production is carefully controlled to ensure that the product does not warp during transport and storage.

OAK FLOORS – FISHBONE
When you look at patterned oak wood floors, there are basically 2 different types. The first type is the classic patterns which use rather small pieces of wood, the second type is the modern patterns which use much longer and wider pieces to create the patterns.
Herringbone oak parquet flooring is a very classic pattern that commonly uses 8cm wide and 35cm long pieces of wood. We offer you the same pattern but in a modern style and much larger, 12cm wide and 50cm to 90cm long. With three-layer floors, the possibilities are almost endless for patterns, just like with solid wood floors.
MARKANT (RUSTIC) – greater color variety and knots from 1115 CZK/m2 excluding VAT
NATURAL – with a minimum of small healthy knots from 1384.-CZK/m2 excluding VAT
SELECT – knot-free and with minimal color difference from 1569.-CZK/m2 excluding VAT
Most parquet flooring is tied to the use of small solid pieces of wood. The advantage of creating a parquet pattern with large pieces of solid oak flooring is that you get a much better view of the beauty of the wood grain. We can help you create a floor with the classic look of parquet flooring, but with the modern touch and beauty of wide plank flooring.

THREE-LAYER OAK FLOOR
The basis of a three-layer oak floor is a supporting middle board, on the underside of which there is a tensile wooden layer, usually made of soft coniferous or deciduous wood, and on the upper side there is a glued oak tread layer, 4-6 mm thick. This 3-layer construction is more stable than a solid wooden floor.

OAK PARQUETS
Parquet is a piece of processed hardwood (oak or beech), intended to be assembled into a parquet pattern or into a mosaic and create continuous surfaces, most often floors. Oak parquet can have various patterns, both endless – repeated, and large and symmetrical patterns. Table patterns, English patterns, flying, dovetail, interlaced or castle patterns are no exception. Mosaic parquet often forms rhombuses and triangular shapes, or specific patterns in the Baroque style.

RUSTIC – greater color variety and knots from 833 CZK/m2 excluding VAT
NATURAL – with a minimum of small healthy knots from 1247 CZK/m2 excluding VAT
SELECT – knot-free and with minimal color difference from 1453 CZK/m2 excluding VAT
We supply oak parquet exclusively to order in thicknesses of 16 mm and 22 mm.

PROPERTIES OF OAK FLOORS
Oak floors are a popular choice for interiors due to their durability, aesthetics, and design variability.
Durability : Oak is one of the strongest and most durable types of wood, meaning that the floors are resistant to wear, scratches and warping. This property is ideal for homes with high frequency of use or for spaces with heavy furniture.
Aesthetics : Each plank of oak flooring has a unique pattern and texture, adding vibrancy and character to the interior. Oak floors come in a variety of shades, from light to dark, so they can easily fit into a variety of living styles.
Maintenance : Oak floors are easy to maintain. Regular maintenance with oils or varnishes helps preserve their beauty and functionality for many years.
TYPES OF OAK FLOORS
Solid oak floors : Made from a single piece of wood, these floors offer excellent durability and a natural look. They are suitable for any interior and create a serious and elegant atmosphere.
Engineered Oak Flooring : These floors combine layers of wood, providing stability and resistance to changes in environmental humidity. They are popular for their flexibility in design and ease of installation.
WHAT ARE THE MOST COMMON PROBLEMS WITH OAK FLOORS?
Oak floors, although highly valued for their aesthetics and durability, can face several common problems. Here are the most common problems that can occur:
Swelling and deformation
One of the most common problems is the swelling of the planks due to excessive humidity. This occurs if the vapor barrier is not properly secured or if the floor is laid on a subfloor that is not completely dry. In such cases, the planks can lift from the subfloor and create significant bulges, which can be especially noticeable in areas near windows or walls.
Insufficient expansion joints
Another common problem is not maintaining the recommended expansion joints between the floor and walls. If the joints are too small or missing altogether, this can lead to the floor expanding, causing it to bulge upwards. Proper expansion is key to allowing the wood to move in response to changes in temperature and humidity.
The effect of underfloor heating
Underfloor heating can also negatively affect oak floors if the correct rules for its installation and operation are not followed. Too high temperatures (above 27 °C) can cause deformation of the wood and the formation of gaps between the individual slats. It is important to gradually increase and decrease the temperature to avoid thermal shocks.
Scratches and wear
Although oak floors are durable, they can become scratched or worn over time, especially in high-traffic areas. Regular maintenance and the use of protective products can help extend their lifespan.
Mold and peeling
If the floor is not installed correctly on a dry and clean substrate, mold may form or the wear layer may peel off, which may be caused by moisture penetrating from the substrate.
When selecting and installing oak floors, it is crucial to follow proper technological procedures and regularly check the condition of the floor to prevent these common problems.
WHAT ARE THE BEST METHODS FOR MAINTENANCE OF OAK FLOORS?
Maintaining your oak floors is key to their longevity and aesthetic appeal. Here are the best methods to care for them:
Regular cleaning
Vacuuming and sweeping : Remove dust and dirt regularly using a vacuum cleaner or soft broom. It is important to use a vacuum cleaner with soft brushes to avoid scratching the surface.
Washing : Use a slightly damp mop when washing the floor. A mop that is too wet can cause the wood to absorb water, which can lead to swelling and warping.
Using appropriate cleaning agents
Professional cleaning products : It is recommended to use cleaning products specifically designed for wooden floors, such as products from the Dr. Schutz or Sidolux brands. These products are designed to be gentle on the wood and effectively remove dirt.
Natural cleaners : You can also use natural cleaners based on white vinegar or baking soda, which are friendly to the environment and the floors.
Surface protection
Oiling and varnishing : Regularly treat the surface with oil or varnish depending on the type of floor finish (oiled, varnished). This will restore the protective film and extend the life of the floor.
Furniture pads : Use felt pads under furniture legs to prevent scratches when moving.
Damage prevention
Preventing humidity : Keep the humidity in the room at the recommended level (40-60%) to prevent wood from swelling or cracking.
Doormats : Place doormats in front of the front door to reduce the transfer of dirt and sand to the floor.
Professional maintenance
Professional cleaning and inspection : Consider regular professional maintenance that includes deep cleaning and floor preservation. Professionals can assess the condition of the floor and recommend appropriate maintenance procedures.
By following these methods, you will ensure that your oak floors remain beautiful and functional for many years to come.
WHAT ARE THE DIFFERENCES BETWEEN SOLID AND SYSTEM OAK FLOORS?
Solid and engineered oak floors differ in several key aspects that affect their properties, installation and maintenance.
Structure and composition
Solid oak floors : They are made from a single piece of oak wood. This construction ensures high resistance and durability. Solid floors can be refinished several times by sanding, which extends their lifespan.
System (multi-layer) oak floors : These floors consist of several layers, with the top layer usually made of quality oak and the bottom layers can be made of other woods or materials. This type of construction ensures greater stability against moisture and temperature changes, which reduces the risk of deformation.
Installation
Solid oak floors : These typically require professional installation, especially if they are glued down or nailed down. They can also be more sensitive to moisture and temperature, which can affect the installation process.
System oak floors : They often allow for easier installation thanks to the “click” system or floating installation method, which makes them easier to assemble without the need for gluing or nailing.
Durability and maintenance
Solid oak floors : They are very durable, but require regular maintenance, such as oiling or varnishing, to maintain their appearance and protect against moisture. They can be more susceptible to scratches.
System Oak Floors : Due to their multi-layered construction, they are less susceptible to warping and damage. They are usually easier to maintain and may be more suitable for areas with higher humidity, such as kitchens or hallways.
The choice between solid and engineered oak flooring depends on your preferences, budget and specific space needs. Solid floors offer traditional beauty and durability, while engineered options provide greater stability and easier installation.
WHAT ARE THE MOST COMMON COLORS AND PATTERNS OF OAK FLOORS?
Oak floors come in a wide range of colors and patterns that can greatly impact the look of your interior. Here are the most common colors and patterns found on the oak flooring market:
Natural shades :
Light shades : Light oak floors, such as natural or bleached oak, add airiness to a space and make it appear larger.
Medium shades : Tones like ochre and chestnut are very popular for their warm appearance and versatility in combination with various decorative styles.
Dark shades :
Walnut and Wenge : These darker variations give an interior an elegant and sophisticated look. Dark floors can also highlight other elements in the room, such as furniture or decorations.
Antique and rustic shades : These colors have an antique look and often contain subtle nuance variations that add depth and character.
Special modifications :
Smoked floors : These floors have a unique look that is created by the process of smoking the wood, which gives it a darker tone with a rich texture.
Bleached floors : Bleaching wood creates a modern and fresh look that is popular in minimalist interiors.
The most common oak floor patterns
Friezes (parquet) : A traditional way of laying, where the planks are laid in parallel rows. This style is classic and elegant.
Herringbone : This pattern is characterized by angled joints that create a herringbone shape. It is popular for its dynamism and visual interest.
Chevron : Similar to herringbone, but with sharp angles that create flowing lines, this pattern adds a modern touch to a space.
Mosaic : Combining different sizes and shapes of planks to create a unique design. This style allows for great creativity in arrangement.
Scattered strap pattern : The planks are laid in different lengths and directions, creating a more natural and relaxed look.
Oak floors come in a wide range of colours and patterns that can suit a variety of interior styles. From traditional natural shades to modern bleached or smoked options, the possibilities are almost endless. Choosing the right colour and pattern can make a significant difference to the atmosphere of your home.
ADVANTAGES OF OAK FLOORS COMPARED TO OTHER TYPES OF WOOD?
Oak floors offer several advantages over other types of wood, making them a very popular choice for a variety of interiors.
Resistance and durability
Oak wood is one of the hardest and most durable woods, ensuring high resistance to wear, scratches and deformation. This property is ideal for homes with high frequency of use or for spaces with heavy furniture.
High stability
Oak is less prone to swelling and shrinkage than some other woods, such as beech. Due to its high tannin content, oak flooring has excellent moisture resistance, making it suitable for use in kitchens and hallways.
Aesthetics
Oak floors have a unique grain and texture that adds vibrancy and character to a space. They come in a wide range of colors from light to dark shades, making them easy to match with a variety of interior styles.
Long service life

Overall, oak floors combine aesthetic, functional and ecological benefits that make them an excellent choice over other types of wood. Their durability, stability and longevity ensure that they are an ideal investment in quality living.
THE MOST SUITABLE OAK FLOOR FORMATS FOR SMALL SPACES?
When choosing oak floors for small spaces, it is important to consider both the format and pattern to maximize visual impact and functionality.
Narrow and shorter slats
Width 10-15 cm : Narrow slats visually enlarge the space, which is ideal for small rooms. Wider slats can make the space smaller and appear heavy.
Length 120-150 cm : Shorter slats are easier to lay and create a dynamic look that can liven up a room.
Large format slats
Width 20-25 cm : Although wide slats are trendy, they should be used with caution in small spaces. If you choose large-format slats, it is recommended to combine them with bright, light shades that will help keep the space airy.
Length 200 cm and more : Long slats can look elegant in small rooms, but it is important that they are in a sufficiently light shade.
Floating systems
Glue-free installation : Floating floors are suitable for quick and easy installation. In small spaces, this can make it easier to make any adjustments or replace the floor.
Straight laying
This traditional style gives a room a clean and organized look. Straight lines can help to visually lengthen a space.
Mosaic patterns
Combining different sizes and shapes of planks can create a unique effect that enlivens the interior without making the space visually smaller.
Colors and finishes
Light shades : Light oak floors (e.g. bleached oak) help to visually enlarge a space and give it a fresh look.
Matte finishes : Matte finishes are trendy and less prone to visible scratches than glossy options, which can be an advantage in smaller spaces.
When choosing oak flooring for small spaces, it is key to choose narrow or shorter planks with bright colors and simple patterns. This will ensure that the floor does not visually reduce the space, but instead adds airiness and elegance.
